Product Analytics Indirect Discharger Monitoring
The survey systematics for analytics and indirect discharger monitoring benchmarking were developed together with 14 sponsoring agencies in the wastewater disposal industry. The first data collection phase was successfully completed in the first quarter of 2007. The pilot project is now being continued in two separate products, separated into analytics and indirect discharger monitoring, and should serve as a continuous platform for the exchange of information for all interested operators. Simultaneous participation in both products creates technical and financial synergy effects.
The Main Processes to be Analyzed
The benchmarking projects highlight all processes of the wastewater laboratories and indirect discharger monitoring. The areas of analysis are divided into the following processes:
Initial Results of the Projects
- Findings from the positioning of the own-monitoring strategy of wastewater treatment plant(s)
- scope of parameter spectrum: sampling points, parameter spectrum, proportion of determinations according to operational/legal requirements, methods applied
- intensity: frequency of sampling and determination
- provider: central laboratory, industrial laboratory, outside laboratory, online analytics

The Indirect Discharger Monitoring Product
- emphasizes the various foci and strategies of the monitoring
- activities and intervals of the monitoring (sampling, site inspections, checks, examinations, cooperative measures),
- industry spectrum and strategies in the various industries;
- compares the expenses of the analytic activities (sampling, scope and frequency of monitored parameters);
- shows the variety of the instruments used and the legal basis (profit generation, limits, bylaws and water law).
