Statewide Benchmarking

Benchmarking was introduced in 2005 in various statewide performance indicator projects.

A simple comparison of core performance indicators should enable companies to perform an initial voluntary determination of their position in comparison with the other companies and provide first indications of potential for improvement.

aquabench currently participates in the following initiatives for statewide benchmarking projects:

  • Benchmarking of the Water Industry of Rheinland-Pfalz:

The German Federal Ministry of the Environment and Forestry, together with the authoritative professional associations in the water industry and the leading municipal business and industrial organizations, developed a concept to attain a voluntary, preferably national, comprehensive participation of the municipal utility companies. aquabench has been performing this comparison since 2005.

  • Wastewater Benchmarking in the Freistaat (Free State) Thüringen:

In the Associations’ Declaration on Benchmarking, the associations in the water industry spoke in favour of the voluntarily benchmarking of companies in the water industry as a modernization tool.
In the confideon Unternehmensberatung GmbH and aquabench GmbH project "Wastewater Benchmarking in the Freistaat Thüringen" the Thüringen wastewater disposal companies can assess their modernization approaches in a statewide comparison in accordance with the five pillar model.

  • Wastewater Benchmarking in Nordrhein-Westfahlen:

With the project "Wastewater Benchmarking in Nordrhein-Westfahlen", the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Nordrhein-Westfahlen (Städte- und Gemeindebund), the Association of Cities of Nordrhein-Westfahlen (Städtetag) Association, the Nordrhein-Westfahlen DWA Regional Association and the Working Group of the Associations of the Water Industry (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wasserwirtschaftsverbände(AGW)) have taken up the Associations’ Declaration on "Benchmarking." The goal is to establish comprehensive benchmarking in Nordrhein-Westfahlen which builds on the voluntary participation of the operators of wastewater facilities.
The company comparison is offered for all sizes of operators and is anonymised. On the basis of company-specific participant data, an individual and meaningful report of results disclosing an objective assessment of the company’s own productivity after a well-founded analysis of the values will be provided to each company participating in the benchmarking.
